Warcraft 3: Reforged Was A Disaster, But That’s Not Stopping Activision Blizzard From Planning More Remakes for 2020

There are no details yet, but let’s hope the company has learned from the failure that was Warcraft 3: Reforged

Let’s not beat around the bush – Warcraft 3: Reforged was a complete and utter disaster. But, that hasn’t stopped Activision Blizzard from setting its sights on more remastered games. Several remastered games, to be more precise.

Word comes via a conference call between investors, analysts, and the parent company of Activision Publishing and Blizzard Entertainment. Most of the car was focused around the company’s recent financial performance, but Activision Blizzard execs disclosed a few details about the company’s lineup of upcoming games. Topics of discussion included

  • Warcraft 3: Reforged
  • World of Warcraft Shadowlands expansion
  • Hearthstone
  • Overwatch
  • Regional testing for Diabloe Immortal (the mobile-exclusive port of Diablo)

Outside of this, though, Dennis Durkin, the CFO and President of Emerging Business at Activision Blizzard, discussed some “promising new titles” that are in the works. He didn’t provide any specifics but with leaks hinting at a Crash Bandicoot Mobile game being in the works, you can bet that’s at least one of them. In his speech about upcoming games he said,

In addition, our business units will continue to tap into our portfolio of beloved IP to bring several remastered and reimagined experiences to our players in 2020, which we will announce closer to launch

So more remakes are definitely in the pipeline, but that raises a big question of what they might be. The company and its independent studios has had a number of major titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games, Diablo, WoW, and StarCraft, among others. Is this evidence that the company could finally remaster CoD Black Ops as just about everyone has been hoping for? Perhaps we’ll see Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater make its way to the remastered list. It would certainly be a throwback to the good old days, that’s for sure.

Either way, we should expect multiple remakes to be announced and released this year, and we could see them as soon as E3 2020 – it’s only four months away as of the time of this writing.

What games would you like to see remastered, assuming they aren’t major failures like Warcraft 3: Reforged?
