The Division 2 is Free to Play This Weekend!

You can explore America’s post-apocalyptic capital for free this weekend.

There’s a lot of argument that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is one of the best games of 2019 and now, you have a chance to play it for free. Starting this weekend, as in today, silly, you can download The Division 2 on your PS4, Xbox One, or PC and play it for free. Even better yet, if you decide you want to play more as Sunday comes to an end, you can get a pretty sweet deal on it, should you chose to buy it.

This free-to-play weekend (along with a sizeable discount for purchase) comes as part of Ubisoft’s celebration of the arrival of Episode 2. If you’re playing on an Xbox, you’ll – of course – need an Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but if you’re rocking the PS4, you don’t even need a PlayStation Plus subscription. If you’re on either of these two systems, you can download them from their respective digital stores directly from your console. If you’re a PC gamer, then you’ll need to open up your Epic Games Store or Uplay Store Client to download the game.

About that sale I mentioned earlier, well, here’s the breakdown.

Xbox One PlayStation 4 PC
The Division 2 $21 $27 $21
Gold Edition $30 $40 $30
Ultimate Edition $36 $48 $36

Don’t ask us why, but for some reason the discount isn’t as steep for the PlayStation as it is for Xbox One and PC players. At first we thought that perhaps the game was originally cheaper via Sony, but that isn’t the case. The base game is normally priced at $60, while the Gold Edition sells for $100, and the Ultimate Edition sells for $120. And, this pricing holds true for all consoles, so why you’re getting the shaft on PlayStation isn’t a surprising question. Either way, if you’re going to buy The Division 2 this weekend, we’d suggest going for the Ultimate Edition as you literally save $84 on PC and Xbox or $72 on PS4. That’s a damn good deal.

The Division 2 Episode 2

Episode two pads The Division 2’s story with three new endgame missions, and it is available for all Year 1 Pass owners right now. If you’re not a Year 1 Pass owner, you’ll have to wait until October 22nd to check out what the DLC offers. And, if you manage to skirt through the whole campaign this weekend, you still won’t get to play the new missions added in Episode 2. At least you can get a great discount on the game, though, if you really get into it.

Microsoft’s Free Play Days

If you’re playing on Xbox One, then you can thank Microsoft’s Free Play Days for your free access to The Division 2 this weekend. There’s also another two other games worth checking out if you’re a Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. This weekend you can check out Stellaris and Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Just like the Division 2, Microsoft is offering up a decent discount, but not quite as good. If you check out either of these games and like them, you can get Age of Wonders: Planetfall for $40 (usually $50) or Stellaris for $28 (usually $40.)
