That Big GTA Online Update Will Blend GTA IV and GTA V In Unexpected Ways

At this point, we can say that GTA Online isn’t going anywhere but an old location and old friend might be coming back

This week has been an interesting one for GTA V and GTA Online, the latter of which might as well be its own standalone game at this point. We’re actually here to talk about two big pieces of news, one of which includes the guys that voiced Michael and Franklin in the GTA V single-player mode and the other will take you back to the good old days of GTA IV in the most literal way possible.

Michael and Franklin Might Be Coming to GTA Online

We’re already well aware that Rockstar has plans for another huge heist in GTA Online – one that’s described as the “biggest ever update for GTA Online.” Now, word has it that the voice actors for Michael and Franklin – Ned Luke and Shawn Darnell Fonteno – will be a part of that big update. It all comes courtesy of a tease during an Instagram Live post earlier this year. Nothing was really set in stone, but Fonteno teased the idea of coming back to the franchise, saying that he’d love to be a part of GTA Online and even alluded to the fact this this could actually happen.

“Oh yeah, that would be fun. I would love to be one of the guys who send you out the missions, yeah. I heard they had something coming up with us to do that, so, wait and see.”

With that in mind, you need to take this bit of news at face value. The big update isn’t due until the end of 2020 and a lot can happen between now and then. That’s also where the next bit of news comes in, and you’ll be even more excited.

GTA Online’s New Location Will Be None Other Than Liberty City

The other part to the massive update coming to GTA Online is that it will the “latest take on heists in an entirely new location.” That entirely new location, folks, is rumored to be liberty city of all places. This rumor comes via a fairly accurate leaker who goes by Markothemexicam on Reddit and claims to have a roommate that once worked at Rockstar North. In his latest post, he claims that the “final” update for GTA online will come in December 2020, and that it will be the new heist. But, that’s not all.

According to him, the term “final” was only in relation to GTA Online for current-gen consoles, which insinuates that GTA Online won’t only be ported over to the PS5 and Xbox Series X but will also be supported and updated well into the future. The new location that we keep hearing about is said to be Liberty City and, believe it or not, Niko Bellic – the protagonist from GTA IV, voiced by Michael Hollick – is also returning. That big heist will reportedly involve robbing the gold reserves in Liberty City. If the news about Franklin and Michael coming to GTA Online is also true, they may be part of the masterminds working alongside Bellic, but at this point, that’s also a stretch of the imagination.

The good news is that we get to return to liberty city, which means we’ll see it in an all-new way. Along with the big heist, more freemode activities and quick jobs will also be added to the game too. Going even further, it’s being said that all future updates to GTA Online will be for the PS5 and the Liberty City Map – something that raises a few questions:

Will we be able to travel between Los Santos and Liberty City?

Will Liberty City be larger and more detailed?

Will other characters from GTA IV also be making a comeback?

How long is GTA Online and GTA V going to live before GTA VI finally arrives?

These are all answers that we’re curious to hear the answers too, but unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait for a while before we get the full story. The big heist update will reportedly happen sometime in December 2020, at which point we’ll get some answers, so we have a lot to look forward too next to the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
