The official description for Horizon 2 Forbidden West says “Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy’s story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats. Coming to PlayStation 5.”
As of now, very little is known about this follow up to Horizon Zero Dawn, but do know that it's expected to launch in 2020 as a PlayStation 5 Exclusive and may even be available when the PS5 launches. The game is supposedly set some 1,000 years after the old ones fell, which would mean that 26 years have passed since the events of Zero Dawn. It's also expected that we'll see parts of the world that we've never seen before.
It seems like news about the potential for sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn has just recently started circulating, but in a matter of just a few months, we’ve learned a lot. Not only is it limited to next-gen consoles but between reports that it would be a PS5 exclusive and the job listing that backed that report up, we’re pretty sure is bound only for the PS5 with some potential to make it to PC some point in the future. That said, we have a lot more to talk about than that, and this guide will get you up to speed with everything that you need to know.
Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Is Actually Horizon Forbidden West
For the past few months, everyone has been calling the game Horizon Zero Dawn 2, but now that the official trailer above has been released, we know that the...
Horizon Zero Dawn 2 could just be called “Horizon,” which was confirmed by a now-edited recent job posting that also tells us Guerrilla Games is aiming for “industry-benchmark graphics.” Of course, this will only be possible on the best PCs and the PlayStation 5. The listing originally referred to the game “Horizon” but has since been edited to remove that reference. Fortunately, the internet doesn’t forget anything:
This listing says that Guerrilla Games is looking for a technical vegetation artist that will focus on creating “lush and stunning vegetation” so that the studio’s world-dressing team “can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.”
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering the fact that the studio has been trying to push its graphical dominance since the original Killzone was launched. And, since that latest reports say that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 will be a PS5...
Guerrilla Games was developing a successor to Horizon: Zero Dawn, and there’s even a plans for a full trilogy in the works, but the real takeaway from the latest report out of VGC is that is that Zero Dawn 2 was originally a PS4 game, but now it’s set to be a PS5 exclusive and is already well underway.
That report paints Zero Dawn 2 as “gigantic in scope with a larger game world and more freedom to explore it than in its predecessor.” It’s also suggested that an abbitious co-op feature could be included as part of the package. Even more interesting is the word that Guerrilla had intended to release a “standalone co-op game preview,” but as of now it’s unclear on whether or not that is still happening. If it does, progress from that stand-alone co-op could carry over to Horizon: Zero...
Guerilla Games, the studio behind the Killzone series and 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn recently tweeted a job ad on twitter that hints at the rumored Horizon Zero Dawn 2 being a next-gen only game.
The initial tweet, which has now been deleted, was posted with the #PS5 hashtag, but it only lasted online for a few minutes before it was removed and replaced without the peculiar hashtag. The studio is looking for a “Senior AI Programmer who can make a difference in the design and implementation of the systems that make our NPCs come to life.”
Thankfully, the nature of the internet means that once something is posted on the internet it’s there forever, and this is a prime example. The screenshot you see above is all you need to see. Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve suspected that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is...
