Resident Evil 8 Producers Just Got Us a Lot More Interested

Chris Redfield will play a pretty big role after all

Resident Evil 8, aka Resident Evil Village, isn’t the game industry’s best kept secret. As far back as March, we learned that the game will be such a departure from the series that it will piss you off and that we’d play through a first-person perspective. There were plenty of other rumors, too, but this time, we have news straight from RE8 producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano via the magazine Famitsu and translated by Twitter user @cvxfreak.

Arguably, the most important news is that Chris Redfield will, in fact, be returning, and he’ll play a huge rule in the game. He’s the run that brings protagonist Ethan Winters to the village in RE8. Ethan himself will wake up to find himself in the village after an unknown amount of time has passed.

The photo spread in Famitsu also showcases a group of villagers praying in a circle, and around them is a pack of werewolves. The creatures actually appear to be protecting them, though, suggesting there’s some sort of cult element within the village. As for these weird werewolves, they aren’t able to speak a language, but the operate throughout the game with a pack mentality and can wield weapons. In other words, watch out for these guys – they’ll likely travel in groups and will be very dangerous to stumble upon.

Another picture depicts a villager in a trench coat who will, apparently, sell things to Ethan, much like the merchant from RE4. Neither Kanda nor Fabiano revealed much else, but they did say that Ethan’s life will depend on him, so there’s a significant piece of the story focused around this mysterious character.

Resident Evil 8 is set to be released sometime in 2021 for the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, however, there’s still no word on exactly when in the year it’ll happen. Capcom is apparently hoping to make it available on the Xbox One and PS4, but it’s still up in the air as to whether or not that will actually happen.

In the meantime, be sure to check out all the old rumors and news about Resident Evil 8:
