After a long wait, we finally get to see a better look of what awaits in the future world of Cyberpunk 2077. Our newest look at gameplay was released during a live stream last night and reveiled the main objective of the game and the overall mechanics of the game. As the game started, we find ourselves entering a bathtub filled with ice in a laboratory. As we continue, the environment changes into a blurry world. To be more specific, we’re in a “BBS data fortress” – a world with no borders.
The gameplay preview demonstrated the various playstyles we will be able to adapt as we progress deep into the game. There was a “strong solo build” that focuses on brute force and quick decisions and another that focused on planning how we want the action to go using: stealth, hacking, and battlefield control using the proper software.
Later on, we find ourselves in one of the city districts, “Pacifica,” designed as a tourist hotspot. Something here went terribly wrong, though, as the place is full of gangs and rusted buildings. Pacifica is described as a “dangerous place for those who are unfamiliar with it”. An armored car looks like the best idea if you really want to explore this district.
We were presented a “black market” where we can buy items to improve our character, and a gang called “The animals,” located in the “Grand Imperial Mall.”
The “Voodoo boys” gang is described as the most skilled hackers that rule the Pacifica. One of the members hires us to infiltrate in the Grand Imperial Mall to find information about the sudden move of the “Animals” on the Pacifica. The animals seem to rely on speed and melee force, selling illegal substances on the black market. Their leader, one of the most powerful members of the gang is a woman called “sasquatch” – a fitting name if we do say so ourselves.
The character’s creation aspect of the game offers the possibility of choosing your character’s past, something you need to take seriously as this can unlock special options later on the game. We can customize the character as we wish with differnt aesthetics and abilities. With no fixed classes, every player can create “hybrid build” depending on what they need. The “strong solo character” focuses on guns and might, beeing able to get guns from turrets, open locked metal doors by hand, and perhaps one of the best options: to use enemies as shields. The storyline is affected by the player’s decision and will “shape the world,” especially in relation to “Johnny Silverhand,” in which you can make him a friend or an enemy.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to be released on April 16, 2020 on Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.
