Back in January 2020, we told you that new Silent Hill games were finally coming, and just earlier in March we told you that talks for a new Silent Hill (an spin-off Silent Hills) were underway and might even launch for the next-gen Playstation 5. Now Konami has stepped in an officially dismissed all rumors surrounding the supposed reboot of the Silent Hill series. But, does that mean Silent Hill is officially dead forever?
A new e-mail send to Rely on Horror – the same outlet that reported the rumor that talks for Silent Hill were underway – included a complete dismissal of Silent Hill being in the works.
“We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear. It’s not to say we are completely closing the door on the franchise, just not in the way it is being reported.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that something isn’t happening, it’s just not likely that it’ll come to PS5 near launch time as previously rumored. As far as we know, the reports from January about Konami “looking to secure a new Silent Hill project” are still very real. A Konami rep even said that the company is “listening to customer feedback and considering ways to provide the next title.”
Unfortunately, the big takeaway here is that Silent Hill isn’t coming anytime soon, but Konami isn’t exactly done with the series altogether. What exactly that means, or when we’ll see the next game will remain a mystery, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend holding your breath waiting for a new game to launch.
In the meantime, you can check out the Whispering Hills Mod for Fallout 4 – it’ll take you as closer to silent hill than you are now.
