Dying Light 2 might be well into the development phase despite being delayed, but Techland is still giving Dying Light one a little bit of action. That action comes in the form of the Hellraid DLC, and while we don’t have a specific release date for it yet outside of “summer 2020”, we do have a trailer (seen above) and know a little bit about it.
The Hellraid DLC is actually based on the now-cancelled standalone game that was going to go by the same name. That was supposed to be a first-person fantasy slasher, but now it’s going to be integrated into Dying Light, something that should help ease the delay pain as Techland works to make Dying Light 2 even better.
For now, we know that the Hellraid DLC will expand Dying Light with a new dungeon map that’s full of new enemies. There will also be a plethora of brand-new weapons, and you’ll be able to play alone or in a co-op mode with your buddies. I feel like I should mention that the background of the DLC sounds like it was copied to some extent from Jumanji: The Next Level.
How so? Well, the official description with the Youtube video says that it all starts when survivors find an arcade machine in the Tower’s basement. If you haven’t seen Jumanji: The Next Level, The idea is the same – four kids plug in an old game and get sucked into Jumanj. Anyway, here’s the official description:
“Dying Light’s new DLC Hellraid will be your ticket to Hell and back No, it’s not a metaphor. You will be literally hacking through demonic hordes of Hell. It all started with an arcade machine survivors found in the Tower’s basement while investigating an odd power outage. None of them could remember seeing this strange device ever before. They moved it upstairs, unaware of its true nature. Dying Light – Hellraid is coming to PC, PS4™, and Xbox One this summer. Stay tuned for more info!”
It does, without a doubt, seem a little uninspired based on the fact that the same plot basis kicks off a recently released movie. Outside of that, though, the game seems kind of like a mix between doom and God of War:
“Based on Techland’s unreleased first-person fantasy slasher Hellraid, this paid DLC will expand the game with a dungeon map full of new enemies for you to slay with a variety of brand-new weapons. Whether you delve into the depths of Hell alone or join your friends for an exciting co-op will be up to you.”
Either way, we’ll be find out more about the Hellraid DLC in the coming months as “summer 2020” is right around the corner. What do you think of the first trailer?
