Rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA VI) have been flying around for a while now, but a new report sheds what appears to be some legitimate light on the game, including that it’s currently in the early development stages and could end up being more like GTA Online than what GTA V was at launch.
This new report comes from Kotaki, and follows up on its investigation into what Rockstar employees called “crunch culture.” The important takeaway from a rather lengthy report is that Rockstar management has created a plan for its next game, “a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.” That last sentence is important, because that’s how the game is referred to as opposed to GTA 6, but for the sake of clarity, we’ll continue on as we always have.
According to this report, GTA 6 will be “moderately sized” at launch and will be expanded over time through regular updates. This makes it seem as if Rockstar is looking to integrate the structure and rhythm of GTA Online or at least an evolution of such. The idea is that it will lighten the studios immediate workload and help alleviate the whole crunch culture situation.
That said, this is just one plan, but it is the most solid thing we’ve heard in regard to GTA 6 so far. With the game being early in development, it’s hard to say what will happen in the long run. The important thing is that Rockstar doesn’t stray away from the game’s history too much. GTA has always been the same in terms of gameplay and immersive storylines. If the company strays too far away from this, making the next installment of the series too much like GTA Online, it could turn out to be a complete flop. GTA Online is fun and all, but there’s still something to be said for the main storyline that’s always been a part of GTA games.
Either way, this is great news, and it could mean that the new Rockstar logo and update to the GTA6 website actually amount to something more than just random occurrences and convinent timing. Meanwhile, you can check out everything we [think] we know about Grand Theft Auto VI.
