Five New Steam Games This Week Worth Checking Out

Steam might have been an awesome answer to the dilemma that was purchasing PC games online, but it’s also a crapshoot of games constant being released. Every day there are, on average, a dozen new games launched on the platform. It’s damn near impossible to keep up with and there are some pretty awesome games that end up falling into a void and never recognized for how great they really are. Here are five from this week that you probably missed but should at least consider checking out.

Coffee Break

In short, Coffee Break is basically about working in a busy café where you must “craft delicious beverages,” deal with logistical necessities, and deck out your joint in awesome décor. It’s not about that, though, as the game is basically a new take on the typical tycoon style gameplay. It’s currently in early access right now but will be expanded significantly when version 1.0 launches sometime later on in 2020.

Star Fetchers: Pilot

I know the game in the trailer doesn’t look all that great, but you should never judge a book by its cover or a game by its trailer, right? Besides, it’s a free game… well, the first episode of a game about a bunch of sword-carrying gangsters trying to climb the ladder of crime. For the most part, you spend your day slicing up fellow criminals. Either way, this first episode is free, so you might as well check it out.

Juken Jigoku

You really can’t beat Japanese themed, first-person horror games, can you? Oh, you don’t know? Well, nows you’re chance to find out, and it’ll cost you less than three bucks. We’re talking about the game you see above, titled “Juken Jigoku” – a name that aptly translates to “Examination Hell.” The game is said to be “inspired by the fears, anxiety and doubts that students have to go through during their school life and the exams time”. But, we guess you can be the judge of that.

Red Bow

If you miss the days of Game Boy, then you’ll really appreciate Red Bow’s top-down camera view and old-school pixel aesthetic. It’s not quite as bad as Gameboy was compared to modern systems, but it’ll definitely take you back. You’ll spend most of your time solving puzzles and investigating, but it’s also a narrative game that’s rather short so it’ll get tired of your before you get tired of it. It’ll only set you back $5, and it’s probably good for a couple of play throughs if you spread them out over a longer period of time.

Lightmatter

Lightmatter is the most expensive game on this list. At $20, it might be a little harder to just take our word for it, but if you give it a chance, you’ll be glad you did. As you can see from the game trailer above, Lightmatter is a first-person puzzle game similar to that of The Talos Principle and Portal, among others. Instead of portals, however, you’re manipulating light to move throughout a facility that was designed specifically to showcase a new energy project known as “Lightmatter.” The odd twist here, however, is that shadows and darkness will kill you. If that doesn’t have you convinced, it’s actually free to try, so you won’t have to pony up the $20 right away. Want to try it now?
