Cyberpunk 2077 is Delayed Until September and Multiplayer is At Least a Year Out

It’s not what you want to hear, but there’s a good reason behind it all

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the works for the better part of a decade, with its development dating back to at least 2013. We’re in the final stretch now, but as it turns out CD Projekt Red needs a little more time to get the game up to speed and ready to release. That means that the Cyberpunk 2077’s release has been moved from April 16 to September 17.

We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive — full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation, and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.

Now, this does sound like bad news, but it’s also good news at the same time, as it also means that CD Projekt Red is determined to give us a game worthy of playing, one without bugs. After all, Night City will be huge, and there will be tons of sci-fi combat mechanics, vehicles, narrative choices, and even romance options. It will obviously take some time to get things right.

Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Is Delayed Even Longer

The original plan was for a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077 to launch sometime shortly after the April launch. However, now that the main game is delayed, the multiplayer will be delayed too. There’s no word as to exactly when the multiplayer will launch, but it will be sometime in the first quarter of 2021 at best if not closer to summer or fall of 2020. For now, all we can do is wait for CD Projekt Red to release more information as we move closer to September, something it’s promised it will do.
