It’s official, CCP Games announced that the EVE Online Shooter is canceled. But before you get sad, they’re focusing their work on a new EVE online shooter. If that’s confusing, let me break it down for you. They’re canceling the plans they started, and by canceling the game, they open up for a new approach for the game, with whole new plan to set in motion.
The Eve Online shooter was first announced four years ago at Pearl Abyss, things have been slow going. Then in 2018, the game was shown off to poor reception, and delayed indefinitely. So, it’s not all that surprising that the game has been cancelled. But, now that Project Nova is officially discontinued, and a new project has started, there’s a lot of new hope in the air. The development team is changing the project codename, but has yet to disclose what it will be called. The point is that a new Eve Online FPS is now, once again, in the works.
George Kellion, Public Relations Head for CCP Games said,
“We’re continuing to develop our sci-fi multiplayer shooter game concept actively evolving it beyond the original scope for what was formerly codenames Project Nova”
This decision, said Kellion, was also motivated by two factors: the poor reception of Project Nova’s 2018 debut and also the new plans for the EVE Online FPS, which are a lot bigger. Even If some major changes will apply, Kellion promised:
“ We remain committed to offering a rock-solid, action-oriented gameplay experience with stellar visuals, but due to significant changes in the scope and direction of out sci-fi multiplayer shooter game concept, it also made sense to update how we refer to this project internally. So, we are no longer using the codename Project Nova for this game concept”.
