Capcom recently published its latest quarterly financials report, and while most of it is of little importance to us, there was something very intriguing hidden away in it. That something is that “multiple major new titles” are currently in development, and there’s a good chance that they will likely launch before March 2021.
So, while Capcom has been busy promoting a digital strategy in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak and trying to boost sales of games like Resident Evil 3 remake and Monster Hunter World, it’s also been putting together some new major games. The term “multiple” could mean two or it could mean 10 – at this point nobody knows outside of Capcom, but what will these games be?
Well, we have it on good authority that at least one of the new games will be the long-rumored Resident Evil 8 with a number of other games potentially drawing from Capcom’s IP library. With that in mind, think about remastered games like Dino Crisis and Streetfighter. Perhaps there will be something new in the Megaman series. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess, but Capcom has a lot of great games just itching to be brought back so nothing bad can come from this news.
The other big elephant in the room is what Capcom plans to do about the impending launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Capcom has remained silent in regard to what its plans are for next-gen games. There’s a possibility that Capcom could be working on a hot launch exclusive or even a pair of hardcore remasters with next-gen enhancements. Either way, the next year is going to bring something good from Capcom.
