Call of Duty’s big team games have always seemed just a little more fun to some of us – better than running around in a room of 12 people, anyway. Then, when Black Ops 4 hit the scene, we were surprised shortly thereafter with an all-new Battle Royale mode known as Blackout. Now, if you’re a fan of battle royale games, then you have no option but to check out COD’s latest multiplayer game mode. Now, as part of the announcement for the new Alcatraz multiplayer map, Activision has announced that Blackout will be free-to-play for anyone, regardless of your system, for the entire month of April. Before I get into telling you how to get your hands on it while you still can, let me explain why you want to.
See, COD 4’s Blackout game mode takes battle royale to an all-new level. It puts 100 people in a massive, custom-built map where, like other battle royale games, you’ll hunt down weapons, armor, and perks before you attempt to put the other 99 players in the room to bed. The goal is simple – be the last man standing, but Blackout actually drops the survival game roots of typical battle royale games to make room for a fast-paced, approachable take. In other words, your first time playing will probably be a lot more interesting than the first time you checked out Apex Legends.
So, what happens if it turns out you really like Blackout mode and want to continue playing after your free April trial is up? Well, Activision has promised that your progress will be saved and transferred over if you decide you want to keep playing. All you’ll have to do is purchase

Getting COD Black Ops 4 Blackout on PC for Free
If you’re a PC gamer, it takes a few extra steps to start playing blackout for free. The first thing you’ll need to do is head over to Blizzard and download its Battle.net game installer. From this page, you’ll find the link to the application installer just above “Classic Games.” The application is available for Windows or Mac.
Set up a blizzard account if you haven’t done so. You can do this via the app once it is installed and is rather painless. Once you’ve completed account creation, continue on to step 3
Log into the battle.net app and take a look at the left navigation bar. Click on “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.” On the right-hand side of the screen, you can click the “Play for Free” button. It sounds easy, but it’s not quite that easy – you still have a few more steps. So keep reading.
Once you click “Play for Free,” an install box will pop up that prompts you to download and install black ops 4. Now, here’s the real kicker. The game is said to be 85.00 GB – yeah, you better hope you have a large SSD, or this thing is going to suck up all of your storage space. Be that as it may, I chose my install point and clicked start install – everything should be good, right? Not quite. You still have to wait for the game to download to around 40-percent before it’s “playable.” Even better, there’s a kicker here that’ll catch you off guard. Take a look at this screenshot – Our download size increased from 85.00 GB to more than 105 GB.
Either way, once the download and installation are complete, you’ll be able to enjoy the Blackout gameplay mode until April 30th. After that, you’ll need to purchase Black Ops 4 in one form or another. If you’re not into the campaign or zombies, you can get the Battle Royale & Multiplayer Only version for about $40. Happy gaming – hope to see you on the battle field.
