It has been a little while since we’ve heard anything about Battlefield 6, with the most recent being back in June 2020 when we heard that it won’t be a remaster but it would take inspiration from Battlefield 3. Now a new rumor, which comes courtesy of Twitter user, Tome Henderson, says that Battlefield 6 will be designed to support 128 players or more and that EA and Dice are even considering a Battle Royal thanks to the interest in games like Call of Duty: Warzone.
Battlefield news; Maps have been designed with 128+ players in mind. But 32 vs 32 will also be a standard playlist.— Tom Henderson (@_TomHenderson_) August 13, 2020
Battlefield news; There's also been increased interest in Battle Royale due to the success of Warzone. No confirmation of a BR in the next Battlefield yet, but could EA and DICE be planning a F2P Battlefield experience?— Tom Henderson (@_TomHenderson_) August 13, 2020
With that said, Battlefield 2021 won’t chance in terms of its core appeal, so you can still expect the usual 32 vs. 32 standard playlist as well as a 64-player mode that will serve as a standard game mode. As of now, we have no idea of where Henderson may have gotten this information, and it should be taken with a grain of salt, but he did accurately predict the release of Modern Warfare and Warzone. That said, EA and Dice did make this somewhat obvious during EA Play Live 2020 when a brief demo showed more than 64 players on a map along with more advanced destruction.
As for A battle royale mode in Battlefield 6, it doesn’t exactly seem like a plausible scenario. If you happen to remember Battlefield V’s battle royale mode, Firestorm, you know that didn’t go over all that well. It wasn’t really supported by DICE, though, and since then, EA has been highly successful with Apex Legends, so there is some potential for it to happen – I just wouldn’t hold my breath expecting it.
As of now, we don’t have a lot of official information about Battlefield 2021 outside of the possibility that it may be a next-gen exclusive. There is a pretty good chance that it’s coming in the next year, though, as EA and DICE just made their last update to Battlefield 5, so there’s a good chance something new is in the works.
