Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Confirmed, First Trailer Imminent

The announcement was a drawn-out teaser, but a new trailer comes today!

The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series was expected to be called Ragnarok and should have taken place between the first Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. Now, Ubisoft, via a very long teaser, has confirmed that the next game in the series is actually called Valhalla. That’s the official name: Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

We still don’t know a whole lot about the game, as the first trailer is set to be released later today, but we do know that it will be about Vikings. As you can see from the key art above, there are Viking ships, axes, and – of course – Viking beards. There could be more to that image than what meets the eye, though.

Notice how the image is split almost 50-percent between Viking ships and ground-based combat? This could indicate that the game will feature two different types of play. Valhalla could return to sailing, a dynamic that we first saw at its best in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. It was never really abandoned, but it hasn’t been as prominent in the series since. If you don’t know your history, then you should know that Vikings are synonymous with sailing and seaside raids, so the image above makes a lot of sense. Valhalla would be the perfect time for the series to return back to sailing with at least some emphasis on naval combat.

The last tidbit of information that came via yesterday’s teaser was the arrival of a raven, whicih appears to be the basis for the crest of the Vikings clan that our new protagonist belongs to. We’ve embedded the official trailer stream below, but it doesn’t go live until 8am PST or 11am EST.
