It’s still a little too early to tell, but all signs are pointing to Respawn Entertainment porting Apex Legends over to the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Supporting evidence comes straight from the jobs page on Electronic Arts’ website, so the source on this one is actually quite credible.
The job listing is for a Senior Rendering Engineer at Respawn Entertainment, and one of the main duties is to “push next-gen platforms and the PC to their limits on Apex Legends.” Of course, that doesn’t specifically refer to the PS5 or XBX, but the reference is pretty clear. Both systems are scheduled to arrive for the holiday season this year, so it makes complete sense, especially given the games popularity among players of all ages.
It’s so popular, in fact, that Respawn is currently working on porting it over to mobile devices and could, potentially, bring crossplay into the mix. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, and if it is fully ported to next-gen consoles it won’t be ready by launch, but it’s good news to hear that it will likely come at some point in the near future.
