Fresh on the heels of news that The Outer Worlds is launching on Steam on October 23, new word has surfaced that game studio Obsidian is working on a new game that could be a sequel or a spin-off. Word comes from senior video games industry analyst, Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners via Twitter.
Last I heard a new entry in the franchise is being explored, currently in pre-production.

Could change into something else ofc, but this is the current status. https://t.co/OGvfHjycNu
With that in mind, we do know that The Outer Worlds will make the transition to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, with Obsidian working hard to make it happen sooner than later. However, Obsidian is now an Xbox Games studio, and that’s where problems with the next game in the series might lie.
With Obsidian being an Xbox Games studio, there’s a chance that the next game might not be available on the PlayStation 5. It will surely be available on the Xbox Series X, and Microsoft will obviously make it available on PC, but will it make the transition to the PS5? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out, but it’s going to be a while before we see the game anyway. The Outer Worlds launched back in 2019, and you can bet it’ll be at least a few years before the next game comes along.
