Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Inches Closer to Its PC Release as Closed Beta Testing Begins

Halo: Combat Evolved will be the second in the Master Chief collection to come to PC

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary has finally moved into its first round of closed beta testing. If you’re part of the Halo Insider program, you should probably check your inbox as you may have been invited and haven’t noticed it yet. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it now and you might be lucky enough to join the next beta session.

Back to the point at hand, this first beta test for Combat Evolved Anniversary introduces four campaign missions, multiplayer matchmaking (with support for custom game modes,) and tester get to dive into some of the customization options that will be available in the full game when it launches.

If you’re confused about why Combat Evolved is just now entering beta testing, we have an explanation for you. Halo: The Master Chief Collection first came out back in 2014 with better graphics, improved controls, and more multiplayer options. On Xbox, Both ODST and Reach have been added to the collection recently, but PC is lagging a little behind and is following a different timeline. Unlike the release schedule on the Xbox, PC gamers will get access to the games via their in-game chronological order. Once Combat Evolved lands on PC, we’ll get Halo 2, 3, ODST, and – finally – Halo 4. Some are saying that ODST technically takes place before 3, but this is the schedule that has been set in stone.

At this point, we’re just glad that the collection is finally starting to come around. When it originally kicked off, there were more technical problems and 343 would like to admit, but the game has been continuously supported and things have been much smoother as of lately.
